The Global Education Office (GEO) assists students with study away on programs that range from a day in Canada to a year on another continent.  GEO encourages all students to consider the many opportunities available through SUNY as an investment not only in your personal enrichment, but in your academic and professional career.

$1,000- $2,000 Scholarship for Study Abroad

Diversity Abroad Honors Scholarship Program (DAHSP)
SUNY's Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI) is offering its scholarship to diverse undergraduate students who are interested in participating in a SUNY sponsored study abroad program. The Diversity Abroad Honors Scholarship Program (DAHSP) recognizes the benefits that SUNY's international education programs provide. 
SUNY Plattsburgh students are invited to apply for a SUNY Diversity Honors Scholarship in the amount of up to $2,000 for a 2017 summer or semester abroad program as defined below:
  • Global research experiences or internships
  • Short-term or semester studies
  • Mentorship/study/research in STEM disciplines
  • Credit bearing summer study programs including cultural immersion
  • Faculty-led programs, including those embedded in academic courses
  • SUNY Plattsburgh students enrolled in a degree program with a declared major.
  • Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors are eligible
  • Applicants must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA at the time of application
  • Candidates are not required to demonstrate financial need
  • Candidates must be United States citizens, permanent resident aliens, and New York State residents.
Application Requirements:
  • A completed application form, signed by the Study Abroad Advisor (application attached below, please leave section 2 blank)
  • A personal essay (1-2 pages) outlining what the candidate hopes to achieve through study abroad, such as cultural/language immersion, research, mentorship, travel, etc.
  • One recommendation (i.e Department Chair, Faculty Advisor, Program or Research Coordinator (reference form also attached below)
Post- Travel Experience:
  • Program Report: Students receiving awards will be required to submit a summary of their experience detailing how it contributed to their career and college goals within 60 days of completing their travel to the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
  • Program Ambassador: Students must be willing to share their travel experience in a college conference forum following their study abroad experience, including the submission of a high-resolution facial photograph for promotional purposes.
